Hydro/Pool Treatments & Exercise

I am sure that being a well informed person you are aware that hydrotherapy means treatment or exercise in water. This is usually conducted in a heated pool that ranges between shoulder and waist deep and is heated between 30-34 deg C.

The benefits of exercising in the water are many:

There is an increase bouyancy and decrease in gravity which is great for painful, stiff and swollen joints.

When you book a pool session with us it will be 1:1, not a group. We will help you establish a programme that could include: pain management, restoring the functional range of movement of your joints as well as strengthening your muscles. There will be other people working in the pool along side you giving you the opportunity to meet like minded people. This group interaction has been proven beneficial to improve both motivation and mood.

One of the most common conditions we use hydrotherapy to help manage is osteoarthritis. As you may be aware osteoarthritis can lead to a downward spiral of joint pain, stiffness swelling and ultimately weight gain. This results in a poorer quality of life. We love to help put an end to this negative cycle of event!

The heated pool is a great place to exercise joints affected by arthritis be it knees, hips shoulders or spines. The the water relieves the effects of gravity, the warmth is helpful for soothing some of the discomfort and we can set a graduated programme to suit your starting point. You may be trying to stave off some surgery or recently undergone some. Please contact us if you think this might be helpful to you.

On the flip side you might be in great shape, an established exerciser, an active sports person with a short term injury! Exercise in the water can help maintain your high level fitness without over stressing your injury site to enable it to recover in an optimum time frame. Water like weights, offer the benefits of resistance. Deep water running is a great cardio workout when dry land and treadmills are off the programme.

Contact us to find out if this is an option that might help your current injury.
